Does your winged liner actually have to be even?
There's a pretty common meme that gets posted to Pinterest and Instagram ad nauseam. It says something like, "May the wings of your eyeliner always be even." Well, as someone who has done her winged eyeliner probably a thousand times, I have a newsflash for you.
No one can tell if your eyeliner is even or not.
Of course, if you've gone so far off course that you have one wing pointing up and another wing pointing down, you may have a problem. But for the most part, if your angle is a little off or the curve is more intense on one side, no one will recognize it. As someone who has talked her friends through the fear of doing their eyeliner, I think this is important to note. Close enough really is fine when it comes to a cat-eye! Getting your wings pretty similar is really all you can hope for.
Now, why is this worth writing a blog post over? For a couple of reasons.
First, I think it really is an annoying makeup trope that your wings need to be perfect or else the world will come crashing down. But my second point is more important. In makeup, as in life, things don't need to be perfect to be worth doing. Learning to do your makeup is fun and the nice thing is, if you make a mistake, you can wipe it off and try again the next day. It really is a learning process, and once you get the hang of it, you don't need to be scared. So grab a makeup sponge, grab your liquid liner, and let's see those wings be less than perfect!
