Instant winter beach vacation style

It's my husband's spring break, and we were lucky enough to go to a beach town for a week. A beach town on the east coast. In winter.

We've gone to the beach - in winter coats. We've gotten in the hot tub - as it was 35 degrees around us. We've indulged in alcohol - usually poured into cups of tea or hot chocolate.

Now, don't get me wrong. All of this has been absolutely lovely, and I'm so happy that we can spend time together in such a beautiful area. But as a girl who was born in Los Angeles and didn't know the meaning of weather until about four years ago, going to the beach in a winter jacket was an altogether new experience!

When packing for this trip, I knew that I wanted to retain the feeling of beachy-ness while also keeping warm as we explored the area. Of course this meant that we were right back to my old standbys - navy and white! Nautical colors are my jam, and wearing them felt like a nod to the area that we're staying in without committing fully to a tank top and shorts in freezing temperatures.

I started with a striped high/low blouse (similar here)  that's really flowy and comfortable, but also has enough shape that it looks like I put some effort in. Underneath, I wore an undershirt so that I wouldn't have to worry if the wind picked up and my collar shifted around! I finished off the outfit with my favorite new pair of jeans, the Levi's Wedgie Skinny Ankle Jeans. Oh my gosh, get a pair of these as fast as you can! They are comfortable and they make your body look and feel great. I love the cut of them and right now, it's hard to convince me to wear any other pair of jeans that I own. The frayed cuffs on the bottom add the littlest bit of sass without drawing attention. I'm telling you - I'm a believer.

The red nail polish was a fun splash of color. I only get gel manicures for the time being because I hate getting my nails done and then immediately ruining them by doing something clumsy. Does that happen to anyone else? It drives me crazy! Instead, I get a gel manicure once every three weeks and then I simply don't have to worry about it.

I finished off with my trusty navy booties and a few standard accessories that I don't generally take off. I didn't want to bring a whole host of accessories on our vacation and worry about forgetting or losing something, so I just wore a few things that I could leave on with every outfit. My earrings are a pair that I've been loving since I purchased them - I can wear them to sleep, they're so comfortable! They are fancy enough for an evening out but subtle enough to wear during the day. My necklace (similar here) fits into the same category - it's very versatile.
